Emily started her collection of mid-century design, particularly West German pottery 15 years ago. The pieces shown in my artworks play a big role in the design of Emily and partner Dans home. Each vase has its place. This is the collection that introduced myself to mid-century design and textiles.

 

The organic designs in the glazes of these pieces are a symbol of the culturally and aesthetically important mid-century arts and crafts movement. I feel ceramics and textile art play an important role of this era, both responding to nature with organic shapes, lines and colours, and have a strong relationship.

 

Through tufting still lifes of these vases, I wanted to pay respects to this relationship. Through my practise, I hope to encourage viewers to reflect on collections that hold a special place in their lives or people around them. I find these conversations unveil quirky stories and come from someone close to them or an event.
